• A Bowden cable is flexible and when the inner cable moves relative to the hollow outer cable housing, it sends mechanical force or energy.  The housing is usually made of a mix of different materials. It has a lining on the inside, a layer that can not be compressed along its length, like a spiral winding or a sheath of steel wire, and a protective covering on the outside. Both push and pull forces can be sent through the inner cable’s straight movement.

• Adjustments: Provision is often included for modifying the cable tension via an inline hollow bolt, often dubbed a “barrel adjuster”, which lengthens or shortens the cable housing relative to a fixed anchor point
