FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Cassette steps retract fully into a housing mounted under or within the vehicle bodywork when not in use. This keeps the step protected during transit and is well suited to applications where ground clearance and body profile matter. Electric cassette steps extend and retract automatically.
Folding steps hinge down when in use and fold back against the vehicle when not needed. They are a straightforward access solution suited to applications where the step does not need to retract fully into the bodywork. Stedall’s folding steps range also includes stirrup steps and recessed steps for different mounting requirements.
Sliding steps extend outward horizontally from the vehicle and retract when not in use. Manual sliding steps are operated by hand and provide a wide, stable platform suited to frequent access points.
-
A side action step is a retractable step that extends from the side of the vehicle to provide a platform at entry height, then retracts flush when not in use. Stedall’s side action steps are available in electric and pedal-operated manual versions across three widths: 600mm, 800mm, and 1100mm. The wider the step, the greater the standing platform available, which is particularly relevant for high-frequency entry points or applications where stability is a priority.
-
Electric steps extend and retract automatically, typically triggered by opening or closing the vehicle door or via a switch. They require an electrical connection and are well suited to high-frequency use where ease of operation matters.
Manual pedal-operated steps are deployed and retracted by the operator using a foot pedal, with no electrical connection required. They are a more cost-effective option and easier to install where routing an electrical supply is impractical.
Both electric and manual variants are available across the cassette steps and sliding steps ranges.
-
Yes. Stedall supplies door brackets and underbody kits to facilitate correct mounting of steps to specific vehicle structures. These are available within the cassette steps range. Contact Stedall on 01454 319524 or at sales@stedall.co.uk with your vehicle make, model, and wheelbase to confirm which accessories are required for your application.
-
The right step depends on available mounting space, frequency of use, whether an electrical supply is accessible, and the step width required.
Where body profile and ground clearance are priorities, a cassette step or side action step that retracts fully is the appropriate choice. Where simplicity and lower installation cost matter more, a folding step or manual sliding step is more practical. For high-sided vehicles or high-frequency entry points, a wider step platform provides greater stability.
If you are unsure which step type suits your vehicle, contact Stedall on 01454 319524 or at sales@stedall.co.uk with details of your mounting position, vehicle type, and usage requirements.
