FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Stedall supplies a range of commercial vehicle roof hatches within its ventilation range. The range includes emergency escape hatches built for safety and compliance, glass roof hatches that provide natural light and visibility, and electric roof hatches available in both 12V and 24V for ventilation control.
Standard vented roof hatches use a translucent, double-skinned polypropylene dome and a mechanism that allows the vent to be opened in any direction. Roof hatches sit alongside related ventilation products including roof ventilators, air diffusers and louvres. Because hatch types and apertures vary, contact Stedall on 01454 319524 or at sales@stedall.co.uk to confirm the right unit for a build.
-
A glass roof hatch provides natural light and visibility into the vehicle interior, as well as ventilation. Stedall’s glass roof hatch uses grey tinted toughened glass in a powder-coated grey aluminium frame, and is fitted with handles to the front and rear of the vehicle.
The glass roof hatch is also supplied as an emergency escape hatch, complete with a red breakglass hammer, so it serves both as a source of light and as a means of escape. It therefore appears in both the roof hatches range and the escape hatches range. For the aperture and roof thickness a specific unit suits, contact Stedall on 01454 319524 or at sales@stedall.co.uk.
-
This varies by hatch, so the roof thickness should be checked against the specific unit. Across the range, different hatches are designed to suit roof thicknesses within stated bands, for example from 20mm upwards on certain units and up to 70mm on others. The product data sheet for each hatch states the roof thickness range it suits.
Because fitting to the wrong roof thickness affects the seal and the mechanism, confirm the figure for your chosen hatch before ordering. Contact Stedall on 01454 319524 or at sales@stedall.co.uk with your roof thickness and aperture, and the team can confirm a suitable unit.
-
Several of Stedall’s vented roof hatches provide permanent ventilation even when fully closed, to conform to BS5601, as stated on the product pages. In practice this means the hatch continues to allow a degree of airflow into the vehicle interior even in its closed position, rather than sealing the space completely.
This is a feature of the standard vented hatches, which use a double-skinned, translucent polypropylene dome and a mechanism that allows the vent to be opened in any direction. For confirmation that a particular hatch carries this feature, refer to its data sheet or contact Stedall on 01454 319524 or at sales@stedall.co.uk.
-
Stedall roof hatches are fitted with the handles to the front and rear of the vehicle, and the venting mechanism allows the vent to be opened in any direction. The standard hatches use an ABS mechanism with a polycarbonate or double-skinned polypropylene dome.
The dome and the mechanism are available as separate parts on certain hatches, so a damaged dome or mechanism can be replaced without buying a complete unit. Where this applies, the product page references the matching mechanism part number. To order a replacement dome or mechanism, contact Stedall on 01454 319524 or at sales@stedall.co.uk with the hatch part number.
