It’s a simple and helpful lighting specification for measuring a lamp’s visual output. The metric is a number ranging from 0 to 100 that is used to determine how well a lamp reproduces colour. Colours should appear more true or authentic in the light as the figure approaches 100. CRI is calculated by comparing a light source’s ability to render eight different pastel hues.

A light should theoretically be able to produce all colours if it can describe these eight colours well. 80 CRI (Ra) is the common baseline for good colour rendering for the majority of commercial lighting. For applications where colour appearance is important for the work being done inside, or can contribute to improved aesthetics, 90 CRI (Ra) and above can be a good starting point. Lights in this CRI range are generally considered high CRI lights.

Although both LUX and Lumen are units of measurement for light, they describe light output in very different ways:

Lumen (lm): lumens indicate the amount of light emitted by a source. Imagine it like a light bulb’s overall brightness.

For instance, a bulb with 800 lumens is brighter than one with 400 lumens.

LUX (lx): lux indicates the intensity of light on a given surface at a specific distance.

In conclusion, Lux indicates the precise brightness of a light at a distance, such as one meter, whereas lumens tell you how bright a LED or fixture is, it doesn’t tell how effective the light is at range.
