Side-action steps deploy outward from beneath the vehicle to create a wide, stable access platform, then retract neatly when no longer required. Their strong construction and generous stepping surface make them particularly suitable for frequent passenger access and demanding specialist-vehicle applications.

Stedall supplies electric, pedal-operated and door-operated side-action steps in 600mm, 800mm and 1100mm widths. Selected models offer safe working loads of up to 300kg. Electric versions provide powered deployment and retraction, while pedal-operated models require no electrical connection and give the operator direct mechanical control. Door-operated STEM steps deploy and retract with the movement of the vehicle door, providing automatic mechanical operation without a separate electric motor.

The range is ideal for minibuses, ambulances, wheelchair-accessible vehicles, community transport, welfare vehicles, passenger vans and specialist commercial conversions. A side-action step is a particularly strong choice where platform width, stability and frequent operation matter more than the fully enclosed packaging of a cassette step.

Correct installation depends on the available underbody space, door arrangement, ground clearance and vehicle structure.
